The USA is bordered to the south by Mexico and Gulf of Mexico, to the west by the Pacific, to the north by Canada and to the east by the Atlantic. In this continent there are two great mountain chains: the Rocky Mountains in the west and the Appalachian Mountains in the east. In the middle of the country there are two important rivers: the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers. The name of the Mississippi comes from the Native America and means "Father of waters" or "Big rivers". What's more, along the Canadian border, there are the Great Lakes: Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Lake Superior is so called because it is above Lake Huron and it is the largest of the four lakes. Lake Huron is bordered to the north, east and south to Lake Ontario and to the west by Lake Michigan and its name derives from Huroni. The name of Lake Ontario derives from Ontari and means "Large lake", but the name of Lake Michigan derives from the Native Americans and means "Large water". Finally, the climate is humid continental in the north and humid subtropical in the south; in Florida it is tropical, but in California it is Mediterranean and in Washington and Alaska it is oceanic.
